Every First Thursday of the Month: Volunteers from First Baptist Church serve dinner at the Shepherd's Table located in Progress (8210 Colonial Lane, Silver Spring, MD 20910). Shepherd's Table began as an FBC ministry in the early 1980's and was the first soup kitchen established in Montgomery County. Adults and mature young people, willing to help those in need of food, set up serving stations, help prepare and serve food, clean tables, and offer a friendly smile of encouragement. This is an ideal opportunity to give something back to our community. Typically volunteers assist during the hours of 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. but any amount of time is greatly appreciated. A typical schedule includes; 5-6 p.m. setting up tables and arranging donated desserts, 6-7:30 p.m. serving dinner, 7:30-8 p.m. cleaning up the dining room.
